What to expect in the report
Cyberattacks are becoming increasingly sophisticated, while legal requirements such as NIS2 or the Cyber Resilience Act are putting additional pressure on companies. In Germany alone, cybercrime causes financial damage amounting to hundreds of billions of euros each year.
But how well are German companies really prepared for this reality? And how accurately do they assess their own level of security maturity?
To answer these questions, FTAPI and techconsult conducted a study surveying 200 IT and security managers who play a key role in decision-making around secure data exchange in their organisations. The results provide a clear picture of the current situation – and reveal where urgent action is needed.
Key Findings
Secure data exchange is widespread, but outdated
More than 90 per cent of companies already use solutions for secure data exchange, but the majority still rely on traditional, basic systems.
Data protection and compliance as key drivers
Secure data transfer has become a central element of corporate security strategies. Data protection risks and compliance requirements are the main motivating factors.
Technical complexity as a barrier
Over half of the companies view technical challenges in implementation as a key obstacle to deploying secure data exchange solutions.
Responsibility lies with employees
In around one third of the companies surveyed, responsibility for correctly exchanging sensitive files lies directly with employees.
Companies overestimate their IT security maturity
More than 40 per cent of companies that rate their own maturity level as high do not have a documented Information Security Management System (ISMS) in place.
